At the end of the 19th century, progress and growth were central keywords. You can also feel this in the ancient Östersund, where many retail shops are established and the streets are filled with active hustle. On the farms, the work was becoming easier by the innovations at that time. But the animals are still on the mountain pastures during the summer months, where they are fed and milked by the dairymaids.

Besides the exhibition outside, there is also a very interesting exhibition inside. Be astonished about the colony of the stoneage and get on the traces of the sami and their reindeers. But the most famous attraction is the Överhogdal tapestry which is about one thousand years old. The weaving patterns are completely conserved and the oldest in Europe.
