Östra Arådalen

Grass-covered chalets in the Swedish mountains
Östra Arådalen is a mountain pasture settlement in the valley of Arådalen, Jämtland, with a very wide view on the Oviksfjäll. The mountain pasture consists of several cottages, some of which are still used today in a traditional way. After the mountain pasture was restored with the help of the Länsmuseum (regional museum "Jamtli"), it was awarded the international architecture award Europa Nostra in 1991.

The open grasslands are mainly covered with bushes of juniper which can reach an age of barely 1.000 years in these altitudes. (Source: http://www.fjallen.nu/fakta/vaxtanp.htm)
